Minority Business Holiday Jingle & Mingle

The City of Charlottesville and the Chamber Business Diversity Council cordially invite you to attend the Minority Business Holiday Jingle & Mingle. Enjoy an evening of food and fun as the community shows appreciation for minority-owned businesses. The event is FREE and open to all Charlottesville area minority-owned businesses and community supporters.

Lighting of the Lawn 2019

il·lu·mi·nate /iˈlo͞oməˌnāt/ (verb): to supply or brighten with light; to bring clarity. For Lighting of the Lawn 2019, that is the goal for the UVA and greater Charlottesville community. Lighting of the Lawn was created in the wake of the attacks on September 11th 18 years ago in order to bring the Charlottesville community together. Today, Lighting of the Lawn still does this including over 15,000 attendees each year from the Charlottesville and UVA Community, Also known as LOTL, Lighting of the Lawn acts as both a reflective and celebrate event and an opportunity to merge the Charlottesville and UVA communities.

The event will be held December 5th at 7 PM with entertainment from several a capella and other student groups. Light show begins at 9 PM. This event is free and open to the public.

Be a Claus for a cause!

Check-in and pick up your Santa costume or elf ears beginning at 9:30am. Run/walk starts at 11am. 

This one mile fun run is an Arc of the Piedmont fundraiser.

The Road from Data Commons to Data Ecosystems

Join the School of Data Science and School of Medicine for the initial Distinguished Biomedical Data Sciences Lecture Series

There are now several large-scale data commons supporting the biomedical research community and the beginnings of data ecosystems. In this talk, we discuss some of the emerging best practices around data ecosystems, as well as some of the challenges and opportunities. We also discuss some case studies of data commons and data ecosystems developing using the open source Gen3 data platform.
